What Do You Think About Oakland Redistricting?

Redistricting occurs every 10 years, after the completion of the U.S. Census. The Oakland Redistricting Commission will redraw the boundaries for the CITY COUNCIL and OAKLAND UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD districts.

On October 13, 2021, the Redistricting Commissioners voted to prioritize review and consideration of Draft Map B and Draft Map D. None of this is set in stone, so your opinions are especially important. And the League of Women Voters has a video that explains the redistricting process available here.

The redistricting must be finalized by December 31, 2021.

Map B - minimal changes to the existing district boundaries using traditional criteria and factoring communities of interest testimony received by the Commission.

Map D - using traditional criteria but not beginning with the existing district boundaries as the starting basis. The draft map also factors communities of interest testimony received by the Commission.

Survey

RHA seeks your opinions on these two draft maps and will share the results with the Redistricting Commission. Think about how changes may affect your community of interest/neighborhood or other issues, e.g. wildfire safety. This survey will be open through October 31, 2021.
