Mostly Marys

Friday, July 28, 2023 | 6:30 PM

Bluegrass feel, sweetly sung: The Mostly Marys is an acoustic crowd-pleasing East Bay quartet that plays bluegrass, old-time music, and whatever else fits. Together since 2017, they have combined rich harmonies with fiddle, guitar, banjo, blues harp, and bass. The Mostly Marys has an infectious enthusiasm for bringing joy to their audience with a repertoire that includes traditional tunes as well as modern troubadours: Hazel Dickens and John Prine; Bill Monroe and Patti Griffin; Ola Belle Reed and Townes Van Zandt. At times the listener is blissfully drawn in, while at other times, foot stomping and dancing can't be helped.

  • Mary Cranley - voice, fiddle, and mandolin
  • Mary Schriner - voice, banjo, and harmonica
  • Ryan Harlin - voice, guitar
  • Scott Underwood - bass and other, secret things

The Orphans

Friday, August 18, 2023 | 6:30 PM

The Orphans are based right here in Oakland. They are a trio of fine musicians who are steeped in what is now known as Americana. They will play a variety of blues, country, and soul sounds. Hank Williams, BB King, zydeco, Elmore James, etc., as well as many original songs in this vein, along with some groovy, danceable style blues and old RnB. On occasion, they will throw in some early country Blues for fun. Jon Lawton on guitar and vocals, Joe Kyle on bass, and Scott Griffin on drums make for a fantastic musical journey called The Orphans.
