Councilmember Sheng Thao: As a resident of the Laurel I have been deeply concerned about the rise in violent crime in our neighborhood, and have heard from many of you with the same concerns. My office continues to take these concerns seriously and have been working closely with the Oakland Police Department in addressing the uptick in crimes.
It is incredibly important for me to hear from you directly. This is why on I hosted a virtual Town Hall for Police Area 4, which includes Laurel, Redwood Heights, Allendale, and Melrose, to discuss the rise in crime. This public safety Town Hall featured myself, OPD Area 4 Captain Angela Mendoza, and other representatives from OPD to discuss the rise in violent crime.
