Safe, Secure and Stronger Together
Thirty-five years ago, the Oakland Hills firestorm devastated our community, destroying thousands of homes and taking 25 lives. For those who lived through it, the memories remain vivid. For those who came later, it’s a powerful reminder of how quickly life can change.
And wildfire isn’t our only concern. The Hayward Fault runs right through Oakland, and a major earthquake could have a significant impact on our homes, infrastructure, and daily lives.
These aren’t distant possibilities or risks that only affect other communities. They’re part of living here.
We can’t prevent wildfires or earthquakes, but we can take steps to be better prepared.
Join the Redwood Heights Association for our 2026 Annual Meeting as we explore what residents can do to protect their homes, families, and neighborhoods.
Wendy Goldsby, President, Oakland Firesafe Council
Wildfire preparedness starts close to home. Wendy will discuss wildfire risks in Oakland’s hillside neighborhoods and steps residents can take to help make their homes and communities safer.
Janiele Maffei, Chief Mitigation Officer, California Earthquake Authority
What would a major earthquake on the Hayward Fault mean for our homes? Janiele will discuss earthquake risks, why it’s important to strengthen vulnerable homes, and ways homeowners can reduce potential damage.
We’ll also share updates on the Redwood Heights Association’s community activities, announce this year’s Community Catalyst grant recipients, and talk about what’s ahead. It’s an opportunity to learn, ask questions, celebrate the people making a difference in our community, and connect with neighbors. After all, bringing people together is what RHA is all about.
