EBMUD Pipeline Rebuild on Jordan Road and Rettig Avenue

Past Events

After a series of main breaks in the Jordan Road area, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) made some changes to the timeline and scope of pipeline work planned in Oakland. This work will improve water service, reduce water loss, and prevent pipeline breaks in the service area. The work began on September 5, 2023.

In this meeting, the EBMUD staff provided a review of the Pipeline Rebuild program, provided details on the timeline and scope of the work on Jordan Road and Rettig Avenue, and answered questions from residents.

Creating a Butterfly Garden for Earth Day

For Earth Day this year, the association created a butterfly garden At Redwood Heights Park. We are so excited about this enhancement to the park. This garden will help preserve the essential habitat butterflies need to survive and bring more butterflies to the greater community.

And what a beautiful Oakland day to celebrate Earth Day! You couldn’t have asked for a better day, sunny but not too warm.

The project was an amazing collaboration between Jackie Salas (Oakland Public Works), the Pollinator Posse, Hope Salzer (Landscape Designer), Waste Management, Breht Clark (Redwood Heights Recreation Center), and RHA. A special thanks to Ghirardelli Chocolate Company for the grant to make this project a reality, and RHA board members, Mary Pryor and Mary Gregory for pulling it all together!

Amazing Clean-Up at Redwood Heights Park Celebrating Earth Day

[Video] More than 1 billion people in 192 countries now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world. Today, we invite you to be a part of Earth Day and to help further climate action across the globe. Oakland celebrated its 28th Earth Day on April 23rd and as part of this celebration, the Redwood Heights Association hosted a park clean-up at Redwood Heights Park.

Thank you so much to our many community volunteers we were able to make a dent in the battle against weeds at the park! Check it out.

What Do You Think About Oakland Redistricting?

Past Events

Redistricting occurs every 10 years, after the completion of the U.S. Census. The Oakland Redistricting Commission will redraw the boundaries for the CITY COUNCIL and OAKLAND UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD districts.

On October 13, 2021, the Redistricting Commissioners voted to prioritize review and consideration of Draft Map B and Draft Map D. None of this is set in stone, so your opinions are especially important. And the League of Women Voters has a video that explains the redistricting process available here.

The redistricting must be finalized by December 31, 2021.

Map B – minimal changes to the existing district boundaries using traditional criteria and factoring communities of interest testimony received by the Commission.

Map D – using traditional criteria but not beginning with the existing district boundaries as the starting basis. The draft map also factors communities of interest testimony received by the Commission.

18th Assembly District Special General Election Candidates

Meet the candidates – Janani Ramachandran & Mia Bonta. This Special Election is for the seat previously held by Assembly Member Rob Bonta, now CA Attorney General. The video contains clips from the Candidate Forum held on June 2, 2021, hosted by the Redwood Heights Association. The candidates on the ballot are Janani Ramachandran and Mia Bonta. The 18th Assembly District Special General Election is to be held on August 31, 2021.
