Oakland will have a new mayor next year as mayor Libby Schaaf is term-limited. Learn more about the candidates that are running to lead our city. The following candidates participated in the forum on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at the Redwood Heights Recreation Center.
[Video] More than 1 billion people in 192 countries now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world. Today, we invite you to be a part of Earth Day and to help further climate action across the globe. Oakland celebrated its 28th Earth Day on April 23rd and as part of this celebration, the Redwood Heights Association hosted a park clean-up at Redwood Heights Park.
Thank you so much to our many community volunteers we were able to make a dent in the battle against weeds at the park! Check it out.
Redistricting occurs every 10 years, after the completion of the U.S. Census. The Oakland Redistricting Commission will redraw the boundaries for the CITY COUNCIL and OAKLAND UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD districts.
On October 13, 2021, the Redistricting Commissioners voted to prioritize review and consideration of Draft Map B and Draft Map D. None of this is set in stone, so your opinions are especially important. And the League of Women Voters has a video that explains the redistricting process available here.
The redistricting must be finalized by December 31, 2021.
Map B – minimal changes to the existing district boundaries using traditional criteria and factoring communities of interest testimony received by the Commission.
Map D – using traditional criteria but not beginning with the existing district boundaries as the starting basis. The draft map also factors communities of interest testimony received by the Commission.
RHA seeks your opinions on these two draft maps and will share the results with the Redistricting Commission. Think about how changes may affect your community of interest/neighborhood or other issues, e.g. wildfire safety. This survey will be open through October 31, 2021.

[Read more…] about They Want to Represent You in CA State Assembly District 18After a series of water main breaks in Redwood Heights, especially the Jordan Road area late last year, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) made some changes to the timeline and scope of pipeline work planned in Oakland. On December 10, 2020, it presented the preliminary plan to replace pipelines in the Redwood Heights neighborhood. This work will improve water service, reduce water loss, and pipeline breaks in the service area.
On Wednesday, April 28, 2021, the EBMUD staff reviewed the Pipeline Rebuild program, provided an updated timeline, gave us additional details on the scope of the work planned in Redwood Heights, and answered questions from attendees. Learn more about the plan by watching the video of the event.
