Celebrate Earth Day in Redwood Heights: Take Action for Our Planet!
Annual Earth Day Event 2026
More than 1 billion people in 192 countries now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.
We invite you to participate and help further climate action worldwide. Oakland is celebrating its 32nd Earth Day on April 18th, and RHA is hosting an Earth Day event at Redwood Heights Park. This is a family-friendly event. Volunteers of all ages are welcome.
Join us for a day of hands-on community care as we refresh and rejuvenate the park!
🌿 Shrublet Removal & Native Planting
We’ll dig out shrublets by the seating area in front of the recreation center, loosen long-compacted soil, and refresh the space with new soil and native flowering shrubs. We’ll finish with mulch to help everything take root and flourish.
🌿 Shadelands Garden Fencing Update
Replacing the temporary orange construction fencing with a more permanent border around the native plants garden, while keeping protection in place where plants are still establishing.
🌿 Ivy Removal Near Play Area
Removing ivy from the base of the juniper hedges next to the play structure to improve plant health and clean up the area.
🌿 Weeding Along the Fire Road
We’ll focus on weeding along the bender board above the fire road where the succulents are, as well as annual pruning to keep the butterfly garden looking its best.
🌿 Teen Volunteer Project
If we have a group of teens join us, they’ll help knock back blackberry and ivy along the fence line near the RHS schoolyard.
🌿 Skate Bowl Edge Planting
We may begin planting fast-growing shrubs along the future skate bowl edge, helping shape and beautify this evolving space.
Your participation helps keep the park looking its best and creates a more inviting space for everyone to enjoy. Let’s make a lasting impact—one plant at a time!
