From Empathy to Agency: Highlights from the RHA Annual Meeting 2025

The Redwood Heights Association (RHA) held its 2025 RHA Annual Meeting on November 5, bringing neighbors together for an evening of reflection, learning, and celebration. The theme, “Empathy to Agency,” captured the spirit of the event, helping residents better understand how Oakland’s government operates and how they can play a more informed role in shaping their community’s future.

It was a lively, engaging, and informative evening that brought together City Auditor Michael Houston and Councilmember Janani Ramachandran for a rare joint conversation. Hearing from both leaders provided valuable insight into how accountability, policy, and implementation intersect, as well as how residents can play a meaningful role in this process.

Creativity Came Alive at the Family Maker Event

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Family Maker Event on Saturday, July 12, at Redwood Heights Recreation Center!

Families from across the neighborhood came together for a fun-filled morning of building, crafting, and exploring with Maker Educator Rochelle Jacobs. Kids let their creativity shine as they worked on hands-on projects and discovered new ways to tinker and create.

Ballot Measure Pros & Cons with the League of Women Voters

We partnered with the League of Women Voters of Oakland to bring you a comprehensive, nonpartisan ballot measure pros and cons for the 2024 Election. We broke down the 10 California propositions and 3 Oakland measures to help you decide. Along with explaining how Ranked-Choice Voting works—a key element of local elections—we also covered an overview of the two recall elections on the ballot.

The featured speaker was Anna Mathai, VP & Co-Chair Voter Service, from the League of Women Voters of Oakland. Her presentation balanced the pros and cons of the ballot measures to provide the community with clear, unbiased information to make informed decisions at the polls. She was incredibly helpful in breaking down the propositions and measures and providing insight into the nuances of why these are on the ballot. Listening to her presentation and making informed decisions when you vote is worth your time.
